Poor Bill Hemmer...what could CNN be thinking?
It's hard to believe that Soledad O'Brien is still going to have a job and Bill Hemmer isn't. CNN must be brain addled. The sensible approach would have been to replace Soledad with Carol Costello and keep Hemmer. I know it would increase my morning viewing of CNN. How do I apply for a bigwig job at CNN anyway?
I'm not familiar with the word incread. Please define it and use it in a sentence. Thanks.

I lost interest in American Morning when they moved Heidi Collins and put Simpering Soledad back after the latest baby bout. The only reason to watch then was Jack Cafferty and now that he is moving, I guess I will go back to the other news shows.

I'm so sorry to have read that Bill Hemmer was let go at CNN...i can't believe that CNN couldn't see what a great reporter Bill was and that he really made alot of Americans tune in into CNN morning news..I couldn't figure out what had happen to him and now i have learn that CNN had made a bad choice...i wish Bill well..and this is why i too now watch Good Morning America...good luck Bill.....

I too was devistated to learn that Bill was leaving. I was assuming it was his choice to go on an adventure or something, not CNN's stupid move! I like Miles but we love Bill!!! Bill, Soledad and Jack. The reason we turned American Morning on everyday.
Comment by Kit Kat— 2005/06/17 @ 11:13 AM — (Reply)
Where is Jack going? Bill was always jumping in and defending Bush when others were doing legitimate stories regarding the administration's problems. He was getting to be like he was on the white house payroll, maybe he was.

I can't believe my ears!!!! I too thought Bill was just moving on to greater pastures and now I read that this is CNN's choice. Bad move!!!!! I watched because of Bill. Hopefully he will show up soon on one of the other news channels and they will be blessed to have him. Good luck Bill---goodbye CNN!!!!!! Karen, Phoenix, AZ

I couldn't believe it this morning...A farewell to Bill Hemmer?! How did I miss this? I had an inkling that he might be spirited away by some other network...but to be pulled by CNN...ugh. And to think, I in my late twenties had finally become an AVID newswatcher because of the great dynamic between Bill, Soledad, Carol, Sanjay, Andy, and Jack. Two down...how much more "shuffling" can CNN do?
Comment by Amanda— 2005/06/17 @ 12:12 PM — (Reply)
As a Canadian newswatcher (CNN) is my favorite station, I thought
Bill Hemmer was the most adorable, friendliest, smartest and
most articulate newscaster. Compared to dull Canadian ones
what are you thinking of CNN. He brought glamour to the newsdesk.

I just couldn't believe it when I saw this morning that Bill is leaving! I watch American Morning every morning - what is going on with CNN?? And Jack leaving too - loved his point of view every morning. And what about Judy Fortin and John King - what is it with these musical chairs!! As far as I'm concerned Carol Costello can take a leave of absence - she laughs so much and then has to give news on Iraq - weird

What a loss the morning will suffer. The trio that I enjoyed so much is no longer. I listen to CNN at home before work and at work on my XM radio. Good luck to Bill Hemmer and I will watch for Jack on his new 3pm slot with Wolf.

I can't believe both Jack and Bill are gone from the morning line-up. I stopped watching Katie and Matt because I loved the morning banter of Bill, Jack and Soledad. Good luck Bill Hemmer. You will do well, whatever your next assignment turns out to be!

I AM SO DISAPPOINTED!! My ONLY reasons for watching American Morning on CNN were Bill Hemmer and Jack Caferty...without them I will go back to watching FOX or MSNBC. I too hoped that Bill was simply moving on for his own personal reasons. I can't imagine what CNN was thinking but I wish the best for both Bill and Jack. I will miss them each morning.
Comment by Laura-NM USA— 2005/06/17 @ 04:46 PM — (Reply)
Big blunder CNN. Get rid of the self centered interupter Soledad O'Brien and I might consider not changing channels. Bill Hemmer is a complete professional and will do great no matter where he lands. CNN you really goofed on this one. See you around but not on my set.
Comment by Jeri-Northern California— 2005/06/17 @ 05:02 PM — (Reply)
How about Miles and Carol Lin (the most underrated reporter on the entire CNN staff)? She and Miles would be the very best. Soledad is no match for Carol Lin, a consummate professional-master in her field!

Chemistry problem? I agree. CNN needs to get rid of Soledad. Her bias is obvious in every interview she does. Bill and Jack were the only reason I put up with watching her.
Comment by carol— 2005/06/17 @ 10:21 PM — (Reply)
I can't believe CNN would move Bill Hemmer from American Morning! He was the main reason I watched it. It was much better with Paula Zahn and then Heidi Collins. Soledad did not appeal to me when she was on the Today show, and I surely was disappointed when CNN hired her. I really enjoyed watching Bill Hemmer.
Comment by jean — 2005/06/17 @ 10:33 PM — (Reply)
Bill Hemmer is the consummate professional. I have watched him since his started his career in Cincinnati. He has always been, and will continue to be, one of the best journalists on television.
CNN just ruined the best show on morning television. They have lost me as a viewer and, I'm sure, millions of others.
I have no doubt that Bill will secure an even better position with another network. He would be an asset to any news division.
I wish Bill all the best and hope to see his intelligent reporting on the airwaves again soon.
Comment by Kim— 2005/06/17 @ 10:46 PM — (Reply)
Is CNN nuts? Jack Cafferty and Bill Hemmer were great on American Morning; they pretty much made me want to wake up and watch TV. Soledad O'Brien is OK, I guess, but Carol Costello or Heidi Collins would have been more to my taste. Hemmer and Cafferty have become a habit, so I will be in withdrawal for a while. Maybe I can get some more sleep, though!

So CNN decided to let Soledad chase off Jack and Bill? I've watched American Morning EVERY morning for 4 years. Tomorrow I change the channel.

Bill Hemmer is leaving? Jack is leaving? Where is Andy Serwer? Why keep Soledad O'brien? What is left of American Morning? Nothing! Nothing! Nothing!
Unbelievable! Is Daryn Kagan next to be purged? Clearly, you folks have a problem recognizing talent.
I have been an avid supporter of CNN since the early 1980's. But I am now tired, finally, of the stupidity of CNN's management. CNN has lost so many good people over the last few years, it is no longer tolerable for me to watch. The CNN decision-makers are just dumb, dumb, dumb ...
I can not watch the Fox propaganda show and I can not watch any longer political correct Fox lite--CNN. So where do I go for originality, sincere debate and real news---certainly not CNN.
Fortunately, when I watch MSNBC I see a lot of former CNN folks--talented folks who were purged by CNN management. Hopefully, Bill Hemmer and Jack will end up there. If only Ted Turner could come back and fire all of these incompetent CNN management jerks-- or buy MSNBC! Goodbye.
Comment by Jim R— 2005/06/18 @ 02:57 AM — (Reply)
I watched CNN everyday when Heidi was on, Soledad just doesn't have the spunk or the polish that Heidi did. Now you are taking Jack and Bill away....I certainly won't be tuning into CNN any more. Good luck Bill.....you will be missed.

Dear CNN: What in the world were you thinking when breaking up the team of Bill Hemmer and Jack Caferty? You've absolutely messed up a great program, and I and many friends will not be watching the morning show anymore. We will go to another network.
Who needs to be replaced are the CNN excecutives who make these stupid decisions.

CNN you might as well say goodbye to your ratings on the morning show. I watch your show knowing I will get the truth and honest reporting. The integrity is lost without the three musketeers of the morning news. The only thing I looked forward to starting my day was the morning show at CNN and coffee. There was nothing that compared to News and Entertainment. I hope a rival network picks up Hemmer and Jack to compete for those ratings in the morning it would be a smart move for network affiliates.

After 25 years of watching the Today show, I tired of their increasingly tabloid approach. Then I found American Morning. It hasn't been the same this week without Jack Cafferty. Without him or Bill Hemmer--the best ones on the show--I'll start looking again and may end up back at Today.

I did not watch Bill's last day on Friday and this morning I turned on the TV to find out he had been replaced. Last week we also lost Jack, WHAT is going on? CNN does not know what they are doing and will also loose me as one of their viewers. I hate to say it but I watched because of Bill Hemmer, and I LOVED Jack's grumpy attitude it was great. Oh! well I guess I will have to go back to the Today Show or maybe Good Morning America I hear they are about to beat Today in the ratings. Good Bye, Bill and Jack.

No Jack Cafferty - a major loss. Now there's no Bill Hemmer, another big loss. These two gentlemen gave AM 95% of its character, humor... and flavor.
Now we're left with the vacuous female anchor who regularly demonstrates her inability to retain focus, basic pronunciation... or to perceive that her scripted questions have just been answered by her interviewees - who as a result always come across as being vastly more intelligent than she can ever hope to appear.
Why Robin Meade wasn't offered the AM anchor spot, I'll never understand.
CNN have their heads up their corporate @sses. I'm changing my viewing habits with immediate effect.

The good news is that I can sleep a little later...because of the BAD NEWS...which is the departure of Bill and Jack. Sorry, CNN...but you guys are way off the mark if you're looking for chemistry between the O'Briens. I only put up with Soledad so I could watch Jack, Bill and Andy. Sad Day for CNN. You really made a huge mistake replacing Bill and Jack. Bill is so very professional a great reporter, extremely knowledgable and good to look at in the morning or any time of the day for that matter. He will be missed for sure. And Jack, he made me laugh every morning, what a great guy, one your would surely like to have a beer with and just listen to him talk. I tuned in to CNN to see Bill and Jack. Ther cannot be the chemistry from now on. Maybe you can undo your mistakes before you loose all the Am listeners. Best of luck to yu Bill, I will be watching for you someplace, you are a star.

Terrible decision to kick off Jack and Bill. Miles is great with Kyra. Unfortunately that still leaves Soledad and she didn't appeal to me on NBC and it hasn't gotten better at CNN. I'm sure Bill and Soledad's ratings have been down. Too bad the network didn't understand that the show just went south when Heidi had to leave and Soledad came back. In the last month, when Bill began to be an only "sometimes" thing, I realized he was going to be history and I tuned back to TODAY. Sorry Soledad, maybe Miles will be a nice guy and make you look better, but I'll just have to read about it.

I got up this morning...turned on the TV to CNN and immediately was shocked to find that Bill Hemmer had been replaced by Miles. I missed Fridays broadcast...so I was totally unaware of his farewell departure. Didn't know what was up with Jack Cafferty either. I am deeply saddened by the decision to move Jack and replace Bill. I will not be watching anymore. Bill, Jack, Soledad had the right chemistry, although I did like Heidi Collins better than Soledad. What ever happened to Heidi? CNN you made a big mistake! Hopefully, a major network will pick Bill up. I'm going to miss American Morning...it will never be the same. I guess I'll tune in to GMA

I am disappointed that Hemmer and Jack are gone. I always thought they were the best part about the morning show, Soledad is pleasant but I never missed her when she was gone like Hemmer. Jon Klein will learn very quickly that he is losing the loyal fan base of CNN. The decision to remove Bill Hemmer from American Morning will be catastrophic. Miles O'Brien does not belong on this show. In watching this morning, the show is very boring with no personality coming through at all from all parties. I will not be watching anymore. I never thought I would consider watching the Today Show again. The decisions being made by Mr. Klein are amateur and the viewer sees through it all. He is destroying CNN and no one at CNN seems to be doing anything about it. My comments are: Where is Heidi?... a woman who filled in admirably for Soledad last year.. Jack Cafferty should go back to NBC, one of the major networks should pick up Bill Hemmer, Aaron Brown, the only thoughtful newscaster in this business, will probably be affected by Mr. Klein next. Where is Mr. Klein getting his insight from? Does he really think he knows the viewer? He surely does not. The real crime was Judy Woodruff -- gee, that's right.. let's let a real class act leave.
Beautiful, Mr. Klein -- hopefully, you will be out of a job soon. Wonder what Ted Turner is thinking????

Jack Cafferty was the reality check to the entire program. Soledad is so wound up in her own personal agenda that she is not credible. Coral Costello is a silly goose and should be replaced by Heidi collins. Bill is a smart ass, but better at his job than most. I will find my morning news elsewhere.

I just read all of the above comments. Thank you for allowing me to find out whose decision to oust Bill Hemmer.
Mr. Klein must be an idiot to think the viewers would be happy to see such a smart, witty, intelligent, good looking, top professional, outstanding reporter and co-anchor as Bill Hemmer is to leave CNN.
Mr. Klein, your big mistake was not making Bill Hemmer the ANCHOR!!
I have ENDURED Soledad in order to hear and see Bill Hemmer every AM report the news. Soledad has NO personality, and during her segments is the time I choose to refill my coffee cup, or put in a load of wash. My heart rejoiced when Soledad left to have her twins, and broke when she returned.
Miles is a nice enough guy, but does not have one tenth of the pizzaz as Mr. Hemmer.
Heidi Collins and Bill Hemmer were a perfect match. And what has happened to Heidi?
Diane Sawyer, here I come.
And to you CNN. It takes a very big person (network) to admit to their mistakes.... and make things right again!! We are waiting.....!!!

I have been watching for almost a year now and I don't get it. Once thye get a good group together with fabulous chemistry they screw it up. It all started when they let Heidi Collins go; where did she go by the way?? I agree with so many of you who feel Carol Costello is awful. I do like Soledad and Miles so we'll see how it goes. Very sorry to see Jack go. Pretty dumb.

Lord, CNN was boring this morning! Miles is an okay fellow and unlike others who have posted before me, I don't have a problem with Soledad, but I MISS JACK & BILL!!!!!!! Have you ever had a meal with no seasonings? Bland as all get-out! They were the salt and the sweetner in my morning tv diet. As far as I'm concerned, CNN is just BLAH now and they've lost yet another formerly faithful viewer. So, when I'm not watching Katie and Matt, I'll just tune into The Beverly Hillbillies!!!

Our morning routine will change dramatically now that Bill and Jack are no longer part of the CNN morning lineup. We looked forward to Soledad's vacations. Sorry, Soledad, I know you are experienced, but just not our bag of tea. I think the Heidi, Bill, and Jack Show would have been a much brighter move. I guess its back to the radio.

What planet was Jonathan Klein born on? When I saw the article in the Washington Post that there would be a change in the line-up at American Morning, due to a "lack of chemistry" I thought, Jonathan Klein wouldn't know what chemistry was if a textbook on the subject smacked nim upside the head. Bill Hemmer was the best thing on the show. A true professional, and with a much better personality than Miles O'Brien (and, hey, much better to look at!). Bill, wherever you go, may you have success (and hopefully remain in the national news spotlight).
Comment by Linda in Maryland— 2005/06/20 @ 04:55 PM — (Reply)
Bill Hemmer's professionalism and style in delivering the news was second to none. I live in Bermuda and watch American Morning everyday and look forward to watching the chemistry between Bill and Soledad. I agree with the previous comments that the 'powers that be' have made a drastic mistake with replacing Bill and Jack with Miles (no comparison). I really looked forward to watching American Morning - every morning because of Bill. I'm also fond of Soledad - a beautiful, talented lady. I was thrilled when they teamed them up and emailed CNN telling them that they had finally found a team that I enjoyed and that I hoped they wouldn't do anything to dis-assemble the team. What on earth could be better to wake up to - than two gorgeous human beings? After watching American Morning for awhile - I could sort of sense the tension between the two - the relationship just didn't appear to be as easy for them as it first appeared. Quite frankly, it was Soledad who appeared to make ever so subtly caustic to and about Bill. I think Bill was ever the gentleman - Soledad started to remind me of the scheming Alexis on Dynasty. Don't get me wrong, I still like Soledad, but I'll be watching to see what Bill's next move is - and I'll follow him to whatever network or venture he undertakes.
Bill always strikes me as the kind of guy that you could run into on the street and say hi to, have a drink with. No pretensions. What was most attractive about his style was his "down to earth" coverage and his "gee whiz - I can't believe I made it this far" demeanor. When he covered a story - he asked the questions that "one of us" would have asked.
I believe this move was planned from the day they hired Soledad. I listened on XM to American Morning this morning - and, I like Miles. However, watch out Miles. Did anyone else here Soledad's comment to Miles when he said somthing to the effect of "welcome to American Morning or breakfast with the O'Brien's?". It was, to say the very least rude and condescending. I believe the quote from Soledad was "let's not do that" - which in and of itself doesn't sound rude or condescending unless you heard the tone and inflection in her voice. I'll stick with American Morning for a while, but I'll also be "flipping channels" between Fox, MSNBC and others looking for "a home".
Bill, if you're reading this - let us know where you are going to be. I like your style. The start of my day - will never be quite the same..........

Soledad is not so bad..... that is if you have Bill Hemmer and Jack Cafferty. With the two of them gone, there is no more reason to watch CNN's American Morning.
We'll miss you Bill.

Ted Turner is right! CNN is no longer newsworthy. How could the network that started the 24 hour information in your face be reduced to such banal dribble. American Morning will now have the same silly domestic look as its competitors on The Today Show and Good Morning America. Bill Hemmer was a professional with style and the sense to question and react on issues. We'll be watching to see where he goes so we can follow. CNN SHOULD RETHINK AND RESTRUCTURE THEIR FORMAT!!!!
Comment by Sounding off in Seattle— 2005/06/21 @ 12:49 AM — (Reply)
CNN has lost their minds. They could have fired Soledad and it would have been no great loss, but Jack gave the morning show humor and a touch of character, while Bill added the professionalism. I don't know how they measure ratings, but I've watched CNN every morning for the last 4 years and will now switch channels. Please, does anyone know where Hemmer is going?

The MAIN reason I watched (past tense) AM@CNN.com EVERY morning was for Jack Cafferty! He was the only TRUE journalist there-- at least one that had any kind of 'spine' to effectively probe relevant topics of the day! Especially in the usually controversial way he'd present or discuss such topics!!! No reason to watch AM now!... with Boring & Boringer, O'brien & O'brien!!
Never cared much for Hemmer; felt he sold out to become just another former journalist turned "plastic" (as in 'phoney') newsreader... but he/Hemmer was more of a true "journalist" than both O'briens combined!
As for Slumbering Subdued Somber Snooty Soledad (aka: Solemom!)-- she should go back to SanFrancisco as they need all the semi-talented 'straight' families they can get! And they way she pumps out kids, SF would be 'straight'ened out in no time! (*grin*)
Ever since their merger with AOL-- CNN's quality (like their stock price!) has progressively, NO, *exponentially* gone down-hill... frequent typo/spelling errors, technical & camera goofs, & the horrible new "HomeDepot" color sceme... content/interview quality has dropped too along with their viewers! CNN now looks like the NEW network on the block instead of one that's "celebrating" being 25 years old!!!
Sadly, CNN has truly become... C)ertainly N)ot N)ews!!!
They need to fire Klein & other brainless Execs (like those nitwits that supported AOL merger!), bring back Ted, and get back to REAL hard-hitting "breaking" news instead of all the marginally-interesting mind-numbing "fluff" stuff.
Another example of their idiotic management is Jamie Kellner (Chairman and CEO Turner Broadcasting) who has repeatedly said that Ad "skipping"-- via TIVO & other PVRs-- is "Theft"!... hey Kellner, viewers are "Ad skipping" cause they're tired of desperate businesses attempting to brainwash them into buying their needless/useless products & services! Who needs subliminal advertising or product placements when you can just beat people over the head with huge advertising budgets! And who (actually) pays for all those Ads??? The ignorant people (aka: customers) who patronize such absolutely desperate businesses!
Yeah, Kellner- Nothing like calling your loyal viewers "thieves" to help boost those dismal ratings & share prices, eh folks?!?!! More evidence that Turner Broadcasting & CNN is now full of Executive Morons! Also proving that most corporate Execs have simply become *truly* desperate, greedy, bastards who'll even resort to insulting their own customers/viewers if it will make 'em more $$$.
Hey CNN- Ya don't beat Fox & others by "becoming them"... yet another "Me Too", OR, by ignorantly removing your MOST talented people, while keeping the least talented ones!... ya beat 'em simply by being BETTER! It's just common sense... something that money (or executive stature) can't buy!
How many "exclusives" or other "scoops" have we seen on CNN as compared to other networks???!?!? CNN has been ROYALLY beaten/trumped at their own game... all because of their *truly* moronic IGNORANT Execs & mgmt!@!!!!
Hemmer-- with his talent & looks-- will do just fine... it's CNN that needs to be wished "Good Luck!" AND, if recent past history is any indication of future performance... they're gonna need ALL the Luck *they* can get!!!... cause they certainly do NOT have any talented, Good management!!!
Can we say A.O.HELL!!!

Man, how late I am. I've noticed for the past week that Bill and Jack weren't around. I figured that Bill was on vacation, but when I didn't see them again this morning, I decided that something was up, so I went online, and now I know the truth.
I did not like Bill very much, I'm sorry to say. I thought he rambled too much, but it was tolerable. But I can't believe they took Jack Cafferty off the program!! Bad move, CNN! He was the biggest reason I watched the program! My weekday morning TV rotation includes CNN, ESPN, and NBC. Now that Jack is gone, maybe not so much CNN anymore...
Comment by Carlos in Charlotte— 2005/06/21 @ 08:43 AM — (Reply)
Well I guess I missed out on what was going on but I did notice Jack acting different. Then I watched CNN in the morning last week kept wondering where Jack my favorite, and Bill were? I kept flipping back and forth from CBS,NBC, and ABC, and back to CNN kept thinking who are these goofballs, where's Jack I couldn't wait to here his comments on subjects I thought he might be on vacation until I came to this web sight. What a shock I feel hurt I loved Jack he put humur in my life first thing in the morning so I could get through the rest of the work day, I feel like Iv'e been shit on by another holy than thou corporate organization why fix something that doesn't need to be fixed. I swear you're all the same, just another government corporation who doesn't give a damn about the people that worked hard for you. I know one thing I'm going to quit watching and waiting for Jack to come back, guess I'll have to resort back to local news which sucks, but it covers a little bit of what I want to know. I am so dissapointed! Jack was the most honest journalist who wasn't afraid to speak the truth, not what the government wanted to here. I think he should run for President then I might start voting again. Good-bye Jack I love you maybe you need to go to HBO like Bill Maher you would be great and we need you to tell us the truth.

Replacing Bill with Miles is a real no-brainer. There is NO chemistry between Miles and Soledad. At least Bill stood up to her boorish and bossy ways. Carol Costello is sooooo much more credible and likeable than Soledad; why didn't she get Soledad's job in the first place?
And Jack...he gave "the older set" a morning voice. Other personnell changes at CNN have me so baffled that I've gone back to NPR. I'd far rather listen to their programs and spend money on their advertisers'
products. Isn't that what ratings are all about?
Bill and Jack...you are truly missed!

CNN you made two stupid moves letting Bill Hemmer and Jack Cafferty go. Miles, I have been watching you this week -- sorry to say-- you don't even hold a candle to Bill. You have a long way to go. Every morning we turned to CNN to hear the latest news -- all due to Bill Hemmer and Jack Cafferty. There are other news stations that we could have listened to, however, we chose CNN, because of Bill's professionalism. I think certain CNN executives need to be downsized due to very poor judgment on their part. You are a bunch of idiots. Bill and Jack, you are the the ultimate professionals. We will miss you both. It appears to be unanimous! Seems everyone here & throughout the Net agrees--- CNN has REALLY screwed up!!! And, given most opinions seen on the Web & at water-coolers here AND abroad, NOBODY cares much for Soledad, either-- who now has Top Billing on CNN's AmericanMorninng webpage! But, EVERYBODY loves/loved Bill & Jack!!!!!
Wonder what that "Dave" guy (from Hong Kong?)-- who always faithfully emailed American Morning crew (Bill Hemmer even interviewed him when over there!)-- thinks about all these wacky changes?!?!!!
So long-- Soledad! Personally, can't wait till they toss that phoney woman out on her big ol' baby-birthing-butt!!!
Tho- always tho't the MAIN reason Hemmer was anchor was only because of his looks! But, after Googling for "CNN bill hemmer" (no quotes) in order to find out what was going on @CNN... found this old link (& others) >> http://www.newyorkmetro.com/nymetro/news/media/features/n_9548/ << which tells much more about Bill's journalistic qualities and personal dedication to his craft!!! Very, VERY IMPRESSIVE-- Bill!
Now have a new-found respect for Bill Hemmer and his *extensive* journalism skills!!! Wish I'd known this much about his career long ago, as would have had a different attitude toward him! Bill Hemmer is MUCH MORE than just a good looking face!!! Can't say the same for Sucky Slobbering Soledad & even though I like Miles, just fear he's not up to the task. But, maybe he'll grow into it??? Too bad Soledad was so (obviously!) jealous of Bill !!! Just cannot watch O'Boring and O'Boring-her!!!
And never much liked American Morning's "90 second poop!" segment or as Jack (frequently!) said "90 second dribble"... either!! And, it is just that... valuable news time consumed by meaningless DRIBBLE! A shameless attempt to spotlight CNN's other media properties (People Mag, etc!)!! No doubt another one of Soledad's (or Klein's?!) lame ideas?!?!?!!
CNN's -->HUGE<-- mistake/loss of essentially demoting Hemmer (to D.C. correspondant!) may very well be CBS's gain/win!!! I just hope Hemmer chooses a new position that TRULY allows him to showcase ALL his journalistic talents & years of hard work!!!
Klein is d'EVIL (& DEVIL too! :-) !!! We all agree! Boot that Klein Bass-Turd... ASAP!!!
And, BTW CNN-- I'm selling my stock in Turner Broadcasting, too!!! You idiots have not only lost a loyal viewer, but also a long-vested shareholder TOO!!! CNN can't even protect its own 600k employee's data, too!! You guys @CNN *are* utter MORONS!!!
We'll miss ya Bill & hope to see you soon... some place BETTER! And, Jack, you're the BEST!!! BTW, just how many awards *does* Soledad have compared to yours Jack (& Bill?), eh?!?!! Cafferty is more "Hardball" than that priss Chris Mathews!!! Let's hope certain news mgmt can "see the light"-- well, that is, if they could just pull their heads out of their (or their bosses?!) @sses long enough to TRULY "see" the light!, eh?!?! Love ya Jack! & MAY consider watching you again/still on "In the money" and perhaps that new "Situation Room" (if & when it ever airs!)!!!... AND, if I can ever get beyond my present anger toward CNN's foul mgmt!!!
Agree with other comments above... CNN has made some WHOPPING HUGE mistakes!!! From that AOheLL merger/debacle to now Hemmer/Cafferty!!! And here's a link where that other Moron (CEO Jamie Kellner) talks about Tivo/PVR Ad Skipping being "theft!"... http://www.ctdata.com/articles/2002/05/02/0341216.shtml
Mr. Kellner-- are people who use the mute and channel changing buttons "thieves" too?!?!!! He's as an incompetent an idiot as Klein! And one can only hope their ratings and stock prices plummet even MORE!!! Then maybe they'll fire this "Focker!" & Klobber Klein too while they're at it!! :-)
Clearly, the problems at CNN/Turner are due to the Executive Morons they have, when what they really need is completely new Executive Management! Mgmt who are actually in-touch with their viewing audiences!!
Good Luck CNN! You are indeed gonna need it! Get ready CNN... the STORM has only just begun!!!

UPDATE:
It appears CNN is demanding even more changes. The latest word is executives have requested their newly appointed anchor, Miles O'Brien, officially change his name to "Kilometers O'Brien" so perhaps he'll have more International appeal to their dwindling viewer audience!
Additionally, it should be noted the initials of the illustrious American Morning anchors are now... MOB 'n SOB, respectively!

I'm so disappointed to see Bill go. Add to that now the fact that Jack is moving to a time that I won't get to view him ( due to work committments), and like most people on here, watching morning tv will never be the same. My husband and I were also very sad to see Bill and Jack both leave the show, and perhaps the station. The morning show has no appeal anymore, it had been our way to start the work day, but lately we've not turned on the TV at all and only miss the "Cafferty File" and Bill & Jack bantering back and forth. Hope to see them elsewhere. Not a good move CNN!!

Remember how great it was when Daryn Kagen & Bill Hemmer anchored together? I'm talking about awhile back in time but they were a great combination for the morning news and, of course, cnn had to change it. Bill Hemmer and Paula Zahn.....No, I don't think that worked very well, did it? Judy Woodruff gone is a huge, huge loss. Jack Cafferty bumped to a spot none of us out west can enjoy due to work hours. Gee, thanks...
I don't have much comment on Soledad or Carol Costello. I wish them well but most of the time I just don't connect with them. Blame management for not putting them in the right place so that they can shine. Not in the morning, okay? Miles O'Brien is a veteran practically of cnn...He's been there thru thick and thin...Put him where he can continue to interest us in science and space. Why throw him into something that isn't working? cnn is disappearing...
Ted, why did you leave us out here in the news waste land? It was wonderful when you started your network and we were right there with you through it all. What the hell has happened to the news on cnn? Compared to the extensive coverage and just plain exciting journalism we once knew, I guess, we were just fortunate to have '80s and most of the 90's in the hands of some of the best journalists we'll ever know. Sad..... I miss most the world news cnn used to have on Sundays...it was a 2 or 3 hour block of what the heck was going on in Poland, Czechchoslovakia, South Africa. Ya know, like the world, huh?
Mr. Bill Hemmer, best wishes and luck to you...Man, you earned it with style, grace and that mind of yours. Must have been all your travel about the globe and a sincere sense of interest in what the hell is going on......
Anderson Cooper & Aaron Brown are the last one's standing.
All I have to say to cnn is, "It's Bill Hemmer, STUPID"!

Wasn't Soledad and Miles co-anchoring a news program in the Bay area at one time?
I remember seeing Soledad on the NBC talk show on weekends, always felt she talked too fast, and wasn't really listening to what others were saying but what she needed to say next. So when I started to Watch CNN in 2001, there she was and I still was not thrilled with her, but then so was there Jack, Bill and Heidi periodically, and I stayed because I got a kick out of the other staff members. It has taken me since yesterday to realize that Miles wasn't filling in for Bill, but was replacing him... My question for you CNN.. W H Y???? I will not listen either to the CNN news anylonger I am not thrilled with the chemistry... And to take Jack off who's bark was always louder than his bite..... what a sad, sad, shame... Time will tell what a shame.... Good luck to you Bill and Jack... Sorry Andy you have lost your buddies.

Soladay has become very rude on her interviews cutting people off in mid sentence and very pushy. We tolerated her to see the other two of the threesome. Someone really goofed. We will not be watching CNN any more. Dumb move. Wish someone would let me know where Bill is moving. Doesn't matter though, without the chemistry between him and Jack, it want be the same.

I enjoy the professionalism as well as the charm of Mr. Cafferty and Mr. Hemmer. Taking them off the morning show means I will not be watching CNN's morning news anymore. It was such a joy to watch them both. The O'Briens are as exciting as day-old bread. Where is Mr. Hemmer going?

I'm so happy to find the 130 comments on this site. The only reason I watch American Morning now is Carol Costello. I time it perfectly, I watch Carol and immediately switch back to my old favorite Good Morning America. Sadly, I don't think even Carol Costell can save the poor, pathetic pair of the O'Brians. CNN, you are nutttttts???

I am so very disappointed in CNN...I had one of the worst week-end in 20 years the Friday Bill left American Morning! I still have the blues...I need my Bill Hemmer and Jack FIX! Its hard to look in on Jack at 3pm but I will and I will keep looking for Bill. When I find Bill I will know what news show I will be moving to! Good Luck Bill!

I turned on CNN for my favorite morning show....and Soladad is kidding around with Miles O'brien about being her new coanchor. I say to myself....where is Bill Hemmer.....no Bill Hemmer?....Say it isn't so!!
I think again to myself...where did they move him. I never could figure out why they moved Paula Zahn for this Soladad bore! I now find out Bill was asked to leave....what a major blunder....I guess it's back to FOX in the morning!!

He makes the whole show boring.. I see no reason why Bill and Jack are not still on..If you think your ratings were low before wait to the new ones come out.. On the other had whatever station Bill ends up on their ratings will sky rocketed.. Fire the head of CNN...

Bill Hemmer is a brilliant, courageous and utterly charming journalist.
His style is easy, spiritual and down to earth. With both his background and education; he will be certainly be a tremendous asset to any of his future endeavors.
We'll be looking for him on other networks!

is when you can find someone who reads between the lines and has enough of a 'pair' to point out the B.S.
Great! One more Ken and Barbie news show. See ya later CNN.

Real shame on CNN for pushing Bill Hemmer out, specially as it seems it was to accomodate Ms O Brien who seems to want the spotlight and does not come to Bill s ankle in term of talent, kwowledge, professionnalism etc. She was tolerable when Bill was there but now your morning show has lost its quality and its appeal. Jack I do not care much because he was very cinycal and we do not need too much of that kind of attitude in the a.m. The new Exec does not seem to know what he is doing, talking about making American Morning becoming a serious player in news broadcasting. Well I am shock that you got rid of your best, most talented , competent and stylish journalist, a rare breed these days.
Well Bill I wish you well and I hope that you will find a real interesting new challenge that suit your unrecognised talent (by CNN ) and that you will be in a spot that we can continue to see you regularly.
As far as American Morning is concerned it is of no more interest to me. The new Exec should be fired ,his renewal of CNN programming is so far not impressive, keeping people like Begala, Carville etc.

Mindless, attractive, teleprompter readers (like Soledad, Miles, etc) are easy to find... great journalists are not. Info included below is from the 1800's; ironically, it speaks rather well to the current situation/crisis within our media/news outlets... Remember- this was from the 1800's!!!...
One night, probably in 1880, John Swinton, then the preeminent New York journalist, was the guest of honour at a banquet given him by the leaders of his craft. Someone who knew neither the press nor Swinton offered a toast to the independent press. Swinton outraged his colleagues by replying:
"There is no such thing, at this date of the world's history, in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it.
There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinion out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone.
"The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread.
You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press?
We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."
(Source: Labor's Untold Story, by Richard O. Boyer and Herbert M. Morais, published by United Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers of America, NY, 1955/1979.)
Bill- though it may not seem so at this moment, CNN has likely provided you an ENORMOUS favor- on a silver plater, no less! Go be a Great journalist some where else! Perhaps you, Bill, were just a little too conservative for CNN?!?!... and, not afraid to show it.
Jack- Definately tho't of you when reading the aforementioned words from John Swinton!! Jack, perhaps you were just a bit too honest?!?!!
Well, keep fighting the GOOD fight folks! Hopefully, some day soon, CNN will remember they're primary business--- NEWS!
PS: "vassals" == "subordinate, subject, servant, slave, etc."

I watched Bill and Jack because they were fun and entertaining in the morning. Not only was Billl nice to look at, but he had a smooth, mellow voice. I'm a proud Canadian who admits openly that I preferred (past tense) watching CNN far more than any other news broadcast. Unfortunately with this latest blunder by Klein/Turner and the resultant loss of the Hemmer and Cafferty team from the American Morning show the "spark" has also gone. The sad thing is that I don't believe that either Klein or Turner are bright enough to believe or act upon the comments they are reading here. Wise up gentlemen! Mr Turner....swallow your pride.....fire Klein and go back to the best damn crew in news....Bill Hemmer, Jack Cafferty, Heidi Collins, Miles O'Brian and Andy Serwer. Cafferty's crusty middle American common sense attitude offset by Hemmer's often "politically correct" viewpoint complemented one another. The professionalism demonstrated day in and day out by Collins, Miles O'Brien and Andy Serwer spoke volumes about CNN's credibility as a news agency. Simply one helluva news team. Noooo....I didn't forget about "madam interuptus"----Soledad O'Brien. But really, I don't know why all these folks are picking on you Soledad.....you've never done nothing!!

After years of watching him go from a fairly good report and anchor with Daryn Kagen to a self centered pompus ass, it's time for him to go and good for CNN. I'm going to watch them again. Bill does have a home and will be anchoring away at FOXNEWS before you know it.

We can not believe that CNN would be concerned about competing with the programming of the Fox New Channel, because we thought CNN had a perfectly matched team with Jack Cafferty, Bill Hemmer, Soladal, Carol and Gupta which was far better than what Fox had to offer. The Fox team is so immature. We just can not watch them. But that's OK because the two networks served two different types of people. Is CNN planning to be another Fox? And why would they want to? Ratings? By trying to attract Fox watches? What will happen to CNN ratings when many CNN veiwers leave for other networks? Is CNN dumbing down? As teachers we witnessed the schools dumbing down. Everything is dumbing down. Where will those looking for a more mature news team go, Maybe MSNBC? I am sure that CNN will not admit that they made a big mistake and then bring Bill and Jack back. I hope they will learn that many, who were faithful watchers, feel that our mornings will not be the same and will no longer be watching America Morning. What will happen to the ratings then? By-the-way, we said good bye to Bill one morning, but I do not remember saying goodbye to Jack. He just disappeared. Would also like to know who is messing with Aaron Brown's format. It is not the same, not as good a program, however we still think HE IS!

I watch CNN American Morning and today I realized something has happened and that Miles OBrien isn't just filling in for Bill Hemmer. So, this morning I found out by going online to do a search as I missed his last day. Bill is an amazing Anchor, he is nice, adorable, warm, funny, personable,so knowledgeable. I so enjoyed his reporting on the Pope's passing with the rest of the CNN gang in Rome. He will be sorrily missed. I like Miles, however I like him with Kyra they are a good team, why is it that you fix something that isn't broken. I wish Bill much success and I'm sure he will appear soon on another station.

PLEASE CNN ... fire Jon Klein!!!
We have been avid CNN viewers for more than a decade ... starting literally every work morning by watching American Morning. I simply cannot STAND the new team of Miles and Soledad. I had always assumed Soledad would eventually be fired as she bring absoutely nothing to the program. Teaming her with the incredibly boring, deer-in-the-headlights, talking head Miles is nothing short of moronic.
I am not looking to be entertained by childish antics in the morning but I am also not looking ot be bored to tears. Bring back Bill and Jack!! They had personality without distracting from the news.

PS: American Morning was the ONE AND ONLY news shows we BOTH wanted to watch. Name one other morning program that could bring as many women in as men.
