Bausch & Lomb Says ReNu is Perfectly Safe - Eye Damage Continues
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Walgreen Co., the No. 1 U.S. drugstore chain, is pulling all Bausch & Lomb ReNu contact lens products from its shelves.
On Monday, Bausch & Lomb Inc. said it would temporarily stop shipping its ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solutions in the United States after some users were diagnosed with a serious eye infection. But it did not issue a recall or say the product should be removed from stores. But they will soon (see results of this dangerous product below).
"There's a lot of customer confusion out there, which is why we decided to remove the entire ReNu line," a Walgreen spokesman said. Walgreen continues to sell other Bausch & Lomb products, he said. "Confusion"? Like gee, I'm confused why I can't SEE.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Monday that 109 preliminary reports of a rare fungal infection that may cause loss of vision had been reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 17 U.S. states.
