McCain Cans Campaign Manager and Chief Strategist and Throws His Support Behind Fred Thompson
WASHINGTON - McCain fired his campaign manager and chief strategist Tuesday, dissatisfied with lackluster fundraising and mixed messages coming from an unfocused leadership committee, a close friend and adviser told MSNBC.
HELLO JOHN.....WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE.....YOU ARE DONE BUDDY.....YOU ARE AN OLD WASHED UP HAS BEEN.....WISE UP AND THROW YOUR SUPPORT AND MONEY BEHIND FRED THOMPSON.....PERHAPS YOU WILL BE THROWN A BONE AND NAMED AS SECRETARY OF THE INTERIOR IN THE THOMPSON ADMINISTRATION
McCain, R-Ariz., said in a statement that he had accepted campaign manager Terry Nelson’s and strategist John Weaver’s resignations with regret, and he told reporters later that they had not been fired in a major shake-up that reflected his campaign’s recent troubles.
But former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating, a longtime friend and trusted adviser to the campaign, told MSNBC that was exactly what happened. "It's over for McCain. It's been over for McCain."
