Ron Paul Supporters Throwing in the Towel
Some time ago Dugg and I made a bet regarding Fred Thompson, Ron Paul and the South Carolina Primary. Dugg of course took RP and I took FT and gave Dugg 3 points. The stakes were an admission by the non winner. Dugg has graciously responded as follows:
"I've about lost all hope, Barry. RP has no chance barring a miracle. If I live to be 90 (and I won't) there will never be another one like him. I'm glad I rode the bandwagon for the last hope - but it's about time to restart that countdown to the end."
Hey, it's not the end of the world Dugg. RP isn't the maverick he is making himself out to be. The only potential maverick who might shake things up is Obama (it almost pains me to say this....BUT he could actually be the most conservative on the bunch, e.g. his health care plan - it is price and market driven unlike everyone else's). This should be interesting...right down to the conventions. Anything can and might happen.

Here was my reply to your bet - http://revolutioncallingyou.bloghi.com/2008/01/21/congrats-to-fred-thompson.html
It almost killed me to write it - but I keep my word.
Ron Paul has received more votes than Thompson & Giuliani combined - will be in the election all the way till a brokered primary - where he will get to speak without ridicule or interruption - and WIN!

"The only potential maverick who might shake things up is Obama" Allow me to LOL at that one buddy. Obama has about as much to do with change as Hillary, McCain, or any of the rest of the "top tier" flock. Go read his plans on Iraq for starters. He is "for withdrawal of troops," but still wants to leave enough forces on the ground to protect our embassy and bases (which I might add are designed to hold around 80k soldiers). I ask you: If we cant control Baghdad with 120k troops, how on God's green earth are we going to keep the green zone around our precious new embassy in the green, and protect our new bases with any less? To me his anti-war rhetoric in conjunction with his votes in regards to war funding translates to "cosmetic troop reductions designed to satisfy nebulous promises to the electorate while in actuality maintaining the status quo," go read his platform and check out his votes. If you're still not convinced his stances are worth about as much as a continental then read on.
Obama does not ever talk about a fundamental restructuring of our foreign policy. Why the hell are we in "one of them Koreas?" Why the hell do we need bases in Germany? Why the hell am I as a Californian whose state gets 75 cents on the dollar back from Uncle Sam essentially propping up Israel, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and all the rest of those nations whom we bribe to be our friends? You wont hear Obama ever broach these subjects because he prefers platitudes about change and party rhetoric so as to out maneuver Hillary when it comes to the addlebrained vote.
Here is the real genius of Obama and the rest of the politicians though, they REALLY don't get why people hate us: Its not just because Republicans (with the help of Dems) randomly declare wars of aggression now-a-days, its because we go into other countries, dick with their governments, and mess with their politics/economy for half a century, and then have the audacity to hope that they wont be pissed off at us. I'm telling you I'm 21, I come from a decently well off family, and if I didn't have chance to vote and vent my political frustration via our political system... I'd be picking up a gun... and venting in a much more satisfying and *counterproductive* manner.
SO IN SUMMATION:
RP is the only maverick (If you don't believe me harass me for links, or check his speeches from the past 30 years / his voting record / his statements in the debates). The other guys are carbon copies of the same old crud that got us into this god forsaken mess. And if you want to make bets go to the track or Vegas; The stakes are too high this time around to be treating this primary season like a GD horse race.

I have taken that generalization to heart personally and am deeply wounded Dugg.
